Abstract:
Frank Wedekind’s Spring's Awakening is about the exploration and subjugation of childhood sexuality in Germany during the 1800s. I will be directing a shortened version of Eric Bentley’s translation set in modern-day America. Ironically, except for some minor changes in language, Spring’s Awakening, which was meant to take place in Germany more than a hundred years ago, adapts to modern-day America. After viewing this performance, I hope the audience will question America’s current education system and social constructs regarding childhood sexuality.
