In 2001, students gathered in the Hetzel Union Building on Penn State’s University Park
campus to protest the administration’s failure to address racial issues at the University. This paper will explore events leading up to the 2001 student sit-in. The culminating university policies will be examined to see how the student demands were met by the administration. Information has been gathered from news articles, university documents and websites, and interviews with key players in this protest.
