Abstract:
This thesis focuses on a number of examples of completely independently composed and produced pieces of music, intended to demonstrate the extent of democratization of art in society. Long ago, cultivated music was a luxury that could only be enjoyed by the highest economic class, but today music consumption is ubiquitous, and its means of production are becoming increasingly accessible as well. How close can an individual come today to replicating the work of the most successful commercial sound studios in the world? How successful have designers been in producing tools that allow each person to accurately portray their individual level of talent? A journey through the songwriting process will help us evaluate these questions.
