Abstract:
Each year many students start an application to the Schreyer Honors College but do not finish it. For the incoming Fall 2013 class 10,005 applications were started while only 2,549 were completed. This left 7,456 applications not completed by the January 16, 2013 deadline. To better understand why the Schreyer Honors College lost approximately 75% of the started 2013 applications, an email with a link to a Qualtrics survey was sent to the 7,456 lost applicants. The survey asked a series of multiple choice, free response, and 9 pt. Likert scale questions. The respondents were also offered a chance to win a $25 Amazon.com gift card promising that one respondent of every 50 would win a gift card. Approximately 1,081 respondents completed the survey in its entirety and 774 responses were used as the focal sample. The respondents' answers were used to make suggestions to the Schreyer Honors College on how to obtain these lost Schreyer applicants.
