Abstract:
In recent decades, increasing temperatures and other climatic changes have been evident throughout the Arctic, where a vast portion of the world’s energy resources are located. In Russia in particular, changes such as melting sea ice and thawing permafrost have the potential to affect energy extraction and production levels in the near future. This thesis discusses the positive and negative effects that climate change may have on oil and natural gas production throughout the Russian Federation, one of the world’s greatest energy producing countries. The thesis also conducts a quantitative analysis to determine if a relationship exists between changes in temperature and historical energy production rates.
