Abstract:
STATE COLLEGE AND PENN STATE ARE CONTINUALLY EXPANDING, BUT WITH STRONG RESISTANCE FROM THE COMMUNITY. THERE ARE STRICT RESTRICTIONS ON WHERE STUDENTS CAN LIVE. DO NOT BUILD UP AND DO NOT BUILD OUT. IF YOU CANNOT GO OUTWARD AND YOU CANNOT GO UPWARD, WHERE DO YOU GO? FOR MY THESIS, I WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE THE INWARD, MICRO DESIGN AND FURNITURE DESIGN, TO MAKE SMALL SPACES MORE DYNAMIC AND LIVABLE. FINDING SPACE FOR ARCHITECTURE MAY BE MORE COMPLEX THAN FINDING A SITE.
MY THESIS IS AN EXPERIMENT AND EXPLORATION OF DESIGN AT THE MICRO SCALE TO GENERATE DESIGN AT THE MACRO SCALE.
TO DEFINE AND REDEFINE SPACE AND CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE ARCHITECTURE THEY OCCUPY.
TO REVEAL AND RE-EVALUATE THE WAY THAT PEOPLE LIVE IN THE SMALL SPACES THAT THEY OCCUPY.
