Abstract:
This thesis will look at the various payment mechanisms that have been tested to pay primary care physicians for their services. The goal is to find a mechanism that will decrease waste through improvement in the areas of value and quality of care. The healthcare field is rapidly changing. Healthcare spending currently accounts for roughly 18% of the GDP. This number is higher than the percentages spent in most other industrialized countries, and it will only increase with the influx of new health insurance enrollees. An examination of the best incentive practices for healthcare providers to ensure the health of all patients ensues in the following pages.
