Abstract:
It is commonly known that children with complex communication needs have difficulty communicating about emotions. In this paper, I am going to evaluate the Strategies for Talking about Emotions with Partners intervention used with the parents of three children with Down syndrome using the Early Development of Emotional Competence (EDEC) tool which analyzes the communication patterns between families and children. The analysis will be used to answer the following questions; “How did the parents’ responses to the EDEC tool change post intervention? Also, how did the intervention change the parents’ construction of communication boards for communication about emotions?”
