Abstract:
This thesis looks into the body of art works created by Wolfgang Tillmans from early 1980s to the present with a focus of on the transforming quality of the photographic medium. The essay first investigates into the moment of 1990s on the clashing of the photo printer, digital camera, and film in the photograph surface. Then, the essay driving into a longer history of abstract photography that is in relation a larger motif of 20th century motif of abstraction, and medium specify. The third chapter dealt with more specify with the issue of body in a double fold: the body of the art work, and the body of the artist. The fourth chapter introduce a systematic view on Tillmans’ 30 years long oeuvre, connecting the motif of astronomy with a distinct world view hidden behind Tillmans photographs.
