Abstract:
Several instruments were developed over the past several decades, and studies were conducted to understand the near-earth space environment. Characterizing the structure and composition of the ionosphere was of significant interest to the scientific community due to its applications in telecommunications. One of the most popular techniques to determine the electron density profile of the ionosphere is using an ionospheric sounder called ionosonde. This thesis aims to present a design of a low-cost ionosonde using software-defined radio and provide mathematical techniques and algorithms to compute the electron density profile.
