divinity - Abstract:
- This thesis highlights creation myths with a focus on women. In many monotheistic religions, God is a male deity. However, I wanted to rewrite some creation myths with a woman as the center. Mothers are creators and they have the ability to give life to another, like a God figure. The divine feminine is a spiritual concept that I have accepted into my life. This exists as a feminine counterpart to the patriarchal and masculine worship that has dominated organized religions for centuries. Many religions have connected the divine to the feminine with the inclusion of goddesses and celestial beings. Even the moon has long been connected to feminine energies because the moon cycle sometimes lines up with a person’s menstrual cycle. I wrote these stories while pulling from other religions than my own and educating myself on different cultures. I wanted my stories to feel authentic, timeless, and relatable. I wrote about many different women, most of them being young mothers. Some of them were happy, others scared and abused. However, despite how they were treated, they remained strong and resilient in the face of obstacles. No matter where a woman comes from, or what their background is, they all deserve respect and admiration like the goddesses they embody.
