Cabaret Theatre Calling Script Stage Management Show
Abstract:
I took a rather unusual path to get to where I am today, and because of this I was unable to complete a Production Stage Manager (PSM) role before my graduation. I am taking this opportunity to create as close to that experience as I can for myself in order to feel more prepared going into the professional world of live entertainment. I created my own calling script for Cabaret, the show which I was the Deck Stage Manager for, and called the show twice within the run. I also assisted the Production Stage Manager in her duties wherever she needed and ran secondary rehearsal rooms when we had more than one room rehearsing at once. While this is not the same as being the PSM, I feel much more confident in my abilities as a Stage Manager having gone through this process. Chapter 1 breaks down what Stage Management is and how the team is typically divided. Chapter 2 talks about two experiences I had prior to working on Cabaret that each taught me a lot about how working in different environments can drastically change what your responsibilities are as a Stage Manager. Chapter 3 goes into depth about my experience on Cabaret. Chapter 4 contains a brief introduction to the concept of calling scripts and my complete calling script for Cabaret. Chapter 5 is a reflection of what I have learned through all of these experiences and what I intend on bringing with me into the professional world.
