Abstract:
In this thesis, In Their Own Words: The Daily Struggles that Educators Face, I draw on data from various publicly available sources of teachers’ stories to understand why educators are leaving the field. My methods for this paper were analyzing two different school board meetings two Tik Tok’s. Some of the reasons they expressed include COVID, working conditions, burn-out, and lack of respect. Analyzing a wide variety of data provided insight into what teachers are going through. Implications of these new understandings include letting educators have a voice within the education system, giving them more prep time, and having mental health checks. Educators need something to change in order to make this job a sustainable career choice.
