The purpose of this thesis is to determine how companies can recruit and retain truck drivers during the current economy’s issues of driver shortages and equipment problems. Currently, it is difficult to find truck drivers, especially for long haul routes where drivers will be gone for five to six days. Younger people are not entering the career as readily as they were in the past. Also, drivers are facing equipment issues such as cab shortages due to microchip. To explore possible solutions, costs of hiring and paying drivers will be explored on a by the mile, by the hour, or on an annual salary basis. A current profile of drivers will be established, along with an ideal profile for hiring in the future. Possible solutions when hiring drivers, as well as equipment management strategies, will be explored.
