Although the domestic violence movement has endured many challenges over the past 50 years, the formula story and feminist theory most frequently portrayed does not allow for a complex array of domestic violence experiences, from the methods of violence to the people experiencing them. Experiences in communities outside this formula story are often under-researched and under-resourced. Each community and intersection of identities has its own domestic violence experiences, help-seeking behaviors and barriers to help-seeking, and these can be accounted for with specific outreach methods.
