Abstract:
In my short story collection, The Loving Gnaw: Consumption in Its Multitudes, I aim to explore the metaphor of consumption through works that span a range of topics. “Bread and Circuses” features an overworked mother with two young children who utilize their powerful imaginations to transform a grocery store into their playground. “this is how it feels to be Eaten Alive” hops between a cast of characters and their connection to a recently deceased rockstar. “When Shoplifters and Samaritans Meet” tells the story of an unlikely rendezvous between two strangers at a department store who have more in common than they initially thought. Lastly, “Bird Watching” is a study on perverse pleasures, recalling the adage that we eat first with our eyes.
