- Abstract:
- It seemed to be that everyone in my generation, the Gen Z are constantly striving to improve consciously and subconsciously. The bustling streets with billboards with targeted messaging around growth, hustle and becoming “better” everyday seems motivating, but what does this kind of self-improvement actually mean? I wanted to write “Redefining Self-improvement: Gen Z’s Unfinished Journey” to explore how our generation is reshaping the notion of self-improvement. To understand whether it’s still about the checklist of achievements society sets out for us or has it transformed into something different. Through my personal reflections I explore my own experiences balancing athletics, academics and online identity and also conducted interviews with my peers in different walks of life to compare and contrast their stories to undercover what self improvement has evolved into within Gen Z. What emerges is a picture of a generation that wants to grow, but on its own terms.
