Abstract:
In this paper, we build the irreducible representations of sl(2,C) from basic principles. We begin with the adjoint representation and develop the theory for any irreducible representation. We then generalize
the approach for sl(2,C) to show how to construct the irreducible representations of sl(3,C). This includes generalizing the Cartan subalgebra, as well as the basic theory of root and weight space decompositions of representations.
